The planned interchange between SR 522 and SR 524 is still on hold awaiting funding from the State. The interchange will reroute traffic in the Maltby area when it is constructed.
State plans for the interchange include rerouting Broadway and aligning it to 87th NE. According to the State Department of Transportation web site, the reroute would go through Maltby Cafe area and most likely through the P.O.P. Electric building.
The diagram from the DOT web site (copied below) proposes that a traffic light be placed at the intersection of the 87th and the rerouted Broadway. Some Maltby residents may welcome the light to deal with the many large vehicles that make a turn at 87th and SR 524 (Maltby Rd).
Westside traffic desiring access to SR 522 must access it from the rerouted Broadway and 86th intersection. W Bostain Road, which currently serves as the Westside traffic entrance will be blocked from SR 522 and SR 524. Traffic currently accessing SR 522 from Northbound W Bostain Road would appear to need to drive further north and backtrack on Broadway.
Eastside traffic current going using Paradise Lake Road will continue on a rerouted Paradise Lake Road. A new light would exist at the intersection of Paradise Lake Road and rerouted Bostain Road.
A June 2008 update on the DOT web site states that the design is currently 90% complete but no funds are left to complete it. It further states that no land has been purchased.
The project engineer is currently Sharif Shaklawun. The web site says the engineer is open to questions or comments.
