The purpose of the Rural Lands Planning Project is to implement a community vision for the county’s rural areas. The project also includes review of rural development regulations and allowed uses.

Topic: Rural Lands Planning Project
Through previous UDC Forums on Rural Cluster Subdivisions, the County has heard citizens’ express discontent with the types of developments approved in rural areas today, along with related concerns about water supply, traffic and other impacts on their traditional rural lifestyles.
Because some of these issues are beyond the scope of regulations governing rural cluster subdivisions, the county has initiated the Rural Lands Planning Project as a comprehensive review of all rural policies, regulations and allowed uses.
To date, the County’s rural planning work has involved intensive outreach to citizens; four weekly public meetings were held during the month of June. You can learn more about these meetings by visiting the Rural Planning Project website .
In July, the UDC Forums will feature a special presentation on rural planning and development densities. We will provide background information on current density standards and pose options for participants to “vote on” using hand-held computers that will provide instant tallies of results.
This fall, PDS will be providing County decision-makers with a full report on citizens’ opinions and preferences on rural densities and development patterns. We hope that your views will be included.

Unified Development Code Update Project public forums are held the first Thursday of each month (Note: the July forum will be held on the second Thursday). Forums are offered in the morning and evening to ensure as much public participation as possible.
