Waste Management Describes Calvert Site Use

MaltbyNow has been in contact with Waste Management about the use of the old Calvert Industries site. This is the reply received over the weekend from WM public relations.

Waste Management Northwest Operations and Market Area Facility

Waste Management is currently planning for the development of an 18-acre parcel of land of, previously known as the Calvert  Industries site in Maltby.  After acquiring the property, Waste Management spent over one million dollars in cleaning the soil of contaminants in preparation for construction.  The soil quality now exceeds industrial commercial requirements.  Waste Management intends to construct a  facility that meets United State Green Building Council Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Silver Certified standards , consisting of operations support administrative offices, market area administrative offices, a truck depot/maintenance shop and a greenwaste reload facility.  The facility will serve as the main administrative offices for Waste Managements Pacific Northwest Operations, which encompasses Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Alaska and British Columbia. The site has been designed to accommodate sidewalks, additional parking for the adjacent softball fields and attractive fencing.

MaltbyNow is following up to find out what "greenwaste reload" and "truck depot" mean.

Clarification from Waste Management

_________________

I have some clarifications for you.

1) We anticipate that the facility will be completed in the first quarter of 2011.

2) Your understanding of a greenwaste reload facility is correct.  Greenwaste will be transferred into a larger vehicle and then sent to a local composting facility.  Greenwaste will not be stored at the facility for any extended period of time.  All greenwaste will be transferred out of the facility on the same day that it comes in.  This facility will replace our greenwaste reload facility in Woodinville.

3) We estimate that their will be 130 trucks homed at the new Maltby facility.  These trucks will be solid waste, recycle and yard waste collection vehicles.
