The basic education learning levy is coming up for vote this February 14, 2012. This is the property tax levy we are currently paying that expires in 2012 and needs to be renewed to support the basic education of our children in the Monroe School District. State funding cuts have left huge holes in the school district. This local levy that used to account for less than 14% of the overall school budget now represents a critical 22-28% of all funds received. This is vital funding and cannot be viewed as optional. Whether you have a child currently in the district or not my family is asking you to support the renewal of this levy. A strong local school district benefits all of us. Strong school districts attract home buyers and raise the values of homes overall. It is good for all of us. We rely on the local schools for education of our child and would like to see the positive progression within the school district continue. We need to be able to pay for quality teachers, quality curriculum, transportation to and from school and many other vital resources. Please support this levy renewal. Strong Basic Education is not optional.
